"Birdo Cosmo" is something I've been working on for a super long time. Back to 2001 maybe. Always intended to be for the 'Nintendo' album, I really wanted to do something from "Super Mario Bros. 2" that I hadn't heard. Late one night I came up with this idea of a panic-stricken version of the mini-boss theme from SMB2. Putting it down turned out to be a little harder than I expected - I ended up only getting to about the 2:21 mark where the track would find itself completely stagnant for about three years. With the looming deadline for the project, I forced out a new part of the track, which is where the piano part comes from. At that point, I knew what I wanted to do and laid out the framework of the whole track, but some of the elements weren't coming together. I asked Jared to come and give me some opinions on the piece and he ended up laying down some cool percussion ideas that I went through and cut up and put to good use. So in the end, it came out better than I had envisioned, but I know I could always do something more. Hopefully my drum'n'bass will keep getting better.
